Vision

To be recognized as the united voice for the profession of kinesiology in British Columbia, Canada which educates and informs the people of BC on the practice of kinesiology and how a kinesiologist can serve to enhance the health and well of the public through evidence-informed prevention and treatment strategies.

Mission

To be recognized as the:

  • Voice for the profession of kinesiology in the Province of BC,
  • Source for ethical, professional and other standards that deliver consistent and competent care and which enhance public trust in the kinesiology profession,
  • Premier resource for kinesiologists in practice support and advanced practice educational resources.

Who We Are and What We Do

The British Columbia Association of Kinesiologists (BCAK) represents 2000+ members to the people of British Columbia as valued allied health care practitioners.

  • Kinesiologists are "Human Movement Specialists", who utilize evidence-informed scientific approaches to improve human function in primary, secondary, tertiary client care environments.
  • Kinesiologists work closely with clients to:
    • improve physical performance and abilities;
    • develop and implement healthy lifestyle choices for physical activity, recovery, diet, disease and injury prevention;
    • help them prepare for success in work, recreation and home environments through task analysis, ergonomic assessments, exercise prescription and built design solutions;
    • enhance mental well being through wellness coaching, including the recommendation and implementation of appropriate physical activity and exercise.
  • Kinesiologists work collaboratively with other allied health professionals in interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary health care environments in the delivery of rehabilitation and wellness services.
  • Kinesiologists strive to improve the health of all British Columbians through health promotion, disease and injury prevention, lifestyle counselling, and guidance that allows clients to assume a greater role in maintaining their health and their health decisions.

The BCAK focuses its effort on:

  • Delivering Industry recognized membership standards (accreditation standards, scope of practice, code of conduct and professional practice standards),
  • Developing a strong brand and identity for BCAK and member Kinesiologists in the province,
  • Marketing, promotion and advocacy of the profession to the public and industry stakeholders,
  • Connecting members through educational events and social media platforms,
  • Providing access to affordable insurance coverage for kinesiology professionals,
  • Establishing recognized standards for continuing professional development,
  • Providing access to relevant career and educational opportunities, industry resources and other valuable member benefits.
