The core subject descriptions are provided to assist students and prospective applicants in determining which courses they have completed may be acceptable to the BCAK if they have not completed a BC course identified in the Academic Assessment Grids or were educated outside of BC or elsewhere in the world.
The subject descriptions detail the subject content and related key performance indicators (KPIs) related to the essential competencies of practice as defined by the BCK and can be utilized to identify specific courses you have completed, that may be used to satisfy the 14 core course requirement of the BCAK and in completing the mandatory academic Self Assessment.
Allocation of courses should be based whether a course (or combination of courses) substantially satisfy the content and KPIs related to the subject. (e.g. the human anatomy course you completed which substantially covered the course content and KPI's (learning outcomes) as indicated would be allocated by course number or name to meet the Human Anatomy core requirement category box).
This review process should be completed by all potential applicants prior to initiating (paying) the BCAK application fee, as applicants must demonstrate they have satisfied the academic course/subject requirements. If after completing the Self-Assessment form, you determine that you are or appear to be missing a course in any of the 14 subjects, you can email office@bcak.bc.ca to find out more on the subject allocations and options for completing the required course(s).
Note: Applicants must meet the course requirements in order to be eligible to write the mandatory Professional Competency Exam (PCE).
Current kinesiology students interested in applying for membership should review the subject descriptions carefully to assist them in planning their program course selections.

Note: The BCAK's recognition of BC Transfer Guide equivalencies is at its discretion.
If you are applying with transfer credit courses, you must provide the course outlines from the originating post-secondary institution (if not found on one of the lists below) and BCAK will determine if the course or course(s) meet(s) the BCAK's academic learning outcomes requirement for a given course subject(s). You will also need to provide official transcripts from all of the originating post secondary institutions. Contact the BCAK for further information if this applies to you.
