Before renewing, please ensure you have completed all required steps, including updating your contact information, entering your required Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credits to your account, ensuring that your Criminal Record Check is valid, reviewing your consents, and confirming your professional insurance coverage. Preparing ahead helps streamline the renewal process and avoid delays in your membership status.
- Continuing Professional Development CPD is a vital part of maintaining your professional competency. BCAK Professional members are required to complete a minimum number of CPD hours annually. You can log your hours through the member portal and include activities such as workshops, webinars, and courses. Be sure to have your CPD entries up-to-date before renewing – the system will not allow you to proceed if the CPD credits are not logged in your account.
- Criminal Record Check (Clearance Letter) Professional members must have a current Criminal Record Check (CRC) on file. If your CRC is expiring or has expired, you will need to submit a new clearance letter before renewing – the system will not allow you to complete your renewal if the CRC is not valid. This ensures compliance with provincial standards for working with vulnerable populations. You can request a CRC secure link by emailing office@bcak.bc.ca – note the BCAK will request a secure link is sent to you and you will need to complete the request and pay the government fee. CRCs can take from 2 weeks to 6 months (for fingerprinting requests) to receive.
- My Consents (Terms and Conditions of Membership; Insurance Declaration; Member Communications, Share information with ICBC and other Third-Party Health Benefits Providers, Good Moral Character Requirement, and Find-a-Kin Website Listing)
- Professional Insurance (Practicing members only) All practicing members must carry valid professional liability and commercial general liability insurance. You will be asked to confirm your coverage during the renewal process. If you purchase insurance through BCAK’s group provider, your coverage details will be automatically verified. Members with external insurance must provide proof of coverage to office@bcak.bc.ca – it can take up to 2 weeks to review so please don’t leave this to the last days of the renewal period.
