Throughout my education at Simon Fraser University (SFU), I have gained a comprehensive understanding of human anatomy, functional movement patterns and injury prevention. I was able to demonstrate the value of my academic learning by using it in a practical setting through my volunteer experience as a clinic assistant at SFU, where I assisted in athletic injury rehabilitation programs addressing musculoskeletal injuries for basketball and soccer collegiate athletes and provided preventative sports taping. In my position as an exercise trainer at Live Well Exercise Clinic, I had the opportunity to work with older adult patients, which challenged me to design personalized exercise programs, conduct postural training, and address chronic and acute back pain. With a keen interest in treating back pain, I strive to continue to further my learning through the works of Stuart McGill. In addition, I displayed the ability to prevent patient self-discharge by sharing success stories with patients and explaining how regular exercise and proper nutrition can improve their overall physical and mental health.
Furthermore, I gained extensive experience working with youth athletes in a variety of sports such as soccer, basketball, and volleyball by designing a sports session that struck a balance between providing a fun and interactive experience, while also ensuring that participants gained a wealth of knowledge around proper movement patterns to improve performance and prevent injury.
