Criminal Record Check Requirements

To complete a CRC, please follow the steps indicated below.

  1. Request a Secure Link
Send an email to office@bcak.bc.ca requesting the secure link to the Criminal Record Review Program (CRRP).
➤ Be sure to use a monitored email address (i.e., one you check regularly), as the link will expire within 14 days of being sent.

When completing the CRC application, enter the BCAK access code: 7VT9H59Y3V when/if prompted.

CRC Clearance Letter process

  • Once your email request is received, BCAK will ask the CRRP to send you a secure application link.
  • You’ll need to input the access code above during the online application process.

Identity Verification

The online CRC form uses the BC Services Card Login to verify your identity. This is a secure and convenient way to access government services online.

Learn how to set up the BC Services Card Login

If You Live Outside BC or Canada:

  • Other Canadian Provinces/Territories:
You can still apply online using two pieces of government-issued ID, even if you don’t have a BC Services Card.
  • Outside Canada or Not Using BC Services Card Login:
You can still submit your CRC online.
    • BCAK will be notified once your application is submitted. You will receive an email from the CRRP notifying you that your identity needs to be verified. Send a copy of government-issued identification (e.g. driver’s license or passport) to office@bcak.b.ca and advise the office that you need to verify your ID at the request of the CRRP.
    • An authorized person will confirm your ID and update your file with the CRRP. Processing CRCs can take between 2 weeks and 2 months (note if fingerprinting is required that can take up to 6 months).

Sharing an Existing CRC Clearance Letter

If you’ve previously completed a CRC through the CRRP, you may be able to share your existing clearance letter instead of submitting a new application.

You may share your clearance letter if:

  • It was completed through the CRRP
  • It was completed within the last 5 years
  • It is still active
  • It covers the same “works with” type — BCAK requires clearance for both children and vulnerable adults
  • If eligible, you can consent to share your clearance letter during the CRC application process.

You cannot share a clearance letter if:

  • It was completed through a local police department, the RCMP, or a third-party provider

After You Submit Your CRC Application

  • BCAK will be notified of your clearance status (i.e., whether you are cleared to work/volunteer with vulnerable adults and children).
    • Note: You will not receive a direct notification from BCAK. If you have a membership with the BACK, you can check on the renewal readiness page – it will always show the most recent CRC on your account.  If you have an application with the BCAK, then you can check your application file in the feedback section to see if the CRC has been received and uploaded to your account.
  • If you are charged with or convicted of a new offense, you must inform BCAK immediately.
    • Failure to do so may result in penalties imposed by the BC Ministry of Public Safety.

When should I complete my CRC application?

To ensure timely processing, apply for your Criminal Record Check (CRC) clearance letter 30 to 45 days before it is required or before your current clearance expires.

Are there organizations offering CRCs the BCAK cannot accept?

Yes.

Why your CRC must be completed through the CRRP: Because BCAK is recognized as an oversight body for kinesiologists in British Columbia, all Criminal Record Checks (CRCs) must be completed through the BC Ministry of Public Safety & Solicitor General’s Criminal Records Review Program (CRRP).
