Renewing your Practicing Membership

Details and step-by-step guide for professional membership renewal

If you have any questions regarding the information on this page or the renewal process after reading, please email the BCAK office.

When you are ready to proceed, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click 'Proceed to Step 1'

STEP 1: Personal Contact Information

Ensure you maintain current (updated) contact information in your account profile, including: mailing address, telephone number(s) and email address. Use only a personal email address for your BCAK account. Corporate/business email accounts are are not considered personal information "not private" under PIPA-BC, BC's privacy legislation. Using a corporate email can result in your BCAK account becoming inaccessible if you leave your job and/or lose access to that email address and you forget your email account password. This will prevent you from receiving important email notifications from BCAK related to membership renewal, government communications and general meetings of the society.

STEP 2: Record your Annual Continuing Education

Practicing members must comply with the BCAK's annual Continuing Education Standards Program (CESP) requirements. Twenty (20) credits/hours of continuing education are required to renew for each subsequent year and excess credits from a previous year cannot be carried forward.

  • Record your credits in your BCAK account prior to beginning the renewal process.
  • If this was your first year of membership you may be eligible for prorated CESP requirements. Please enter the appropriate supplement if you are. Additional information can be found on the Continuing Education Standards Program Page .
  • Once you have recorded the required credits, you may proceed to the next step.

STEP 3: Purchasing/Verifying Professional Insurance

Review the information on the BCAK Practicing Membership Insurance Requirements page to determine the requirements and options available to you.

PROLINK (Group provider)

If you choose to go through the group provider, a popup window will appear after you initiate the process and you will be redirected to the PROLINK website to select and purchase insurance. Any questions about insurance coverage or options should be directed to PROLINK customer service, by Email: leonap@prolink.insure or by telephone @ 1-800-663-6828.

The Financial Institutions Act of BC prevents the BCAK, its employees or agents from providing specific policy advice or discussing insurance policy terms and coverage.

"Other" Third-Party Insurance
If you choose to insure through a third party or "Other" insurer, you must first contact the BCAK office by email. Office staff will then provide you with an "Insurance Verification and Waiver Form". You must meet 'all' the applicable requirements, see the first section BCAK Practicing Member Insurance Requirements, to review the requirements.

Only complete, sign and submit the form if you meet these requirements, as all entries will be verified with the information on the copy of your Professional Liability and Commercial Liability Insurance Policy declaration pages you submit with the declaration. (Note: full policy wordings may be requested by BCAK if all relevant information is not shown on the policy declaration sheet). Following review, you will be notified whether the insurance meets the BCAK's requirements. Requests for acceptance of "Other" insurance sould be submitted no later than December 10th to avoid a delay in receiving a decision on approval beyond the December 31st closing date for the regular renewal period. If sufficient review time is not allowed, the review may not be complete by the December 31st renewal deadline and you may be subject to a late renewal fee. Once your documents have been verified and approved, you will be notified and able to proceed with your renewal.

Note:

  • CATA member professional insurance coverage will be accepted for BCAK membership provided the "kinesiology" extension is purchased. Policies without the extension are not acceptable.
  • CSEP-CPT and CSEP-CEP member professional insurance coverage is not acceptable as CEP insurance does not cover the full scope of kinesiology in BC and CPT insurance only covers working with healthy (non-medically supervised exercise) populations.

How you Will Know You Can Renew?

Once you have completed the insurance purchase/third-party verification process as detailed above, the status of your BCAK account "insurance is paid" status will change from a red "NO" to a green "YES". This confirms your insurance has been verified and approved by the BCAK and you can complete the final step of membership dues payment (Reminder - your membership is NOT active until you complete the final payment process).

STEP 4: Consents

Informed Consents: Please read and ensure you understand the "Informed Consents". You must consent to receive required communications from the BCAK to maintain membership, these include the 'Professional Oath of Practice', the 'Professional Insurance Declaration and Waiver' and the 'Consent for Member Communication'. Consents for the sharing of information with insurers, displaying information on the 'Find-a-Kinesiologist' page and receiving BCAK job postings and course advertisements are optional for BCAK members and can be amended at any time.

STEP 5: Paying your Membership Dues

The final step of renewal is paying for your BCAK membership.

November 15th to December 15th --- $270 dues + GST ($283.50)

December 16th to December 31st --- $300 dues + GST ($315)

January 1st to 31st of the following year or years --- $300 dues + $100 late fee + GST ($420)

After February 1st of the following year, but within 3 years of last being a member in good standing --- $300 dues + $200 reinstatement fee + GST ($525)

Verify your billing information and proceed to payment. The Stripe payment system recognizes most major credit cards and requires the card number, expiry date, CVV or CVC # and the Postal code to which the card statement is attached for verification. Payment by cheque is possible, however this will delay the completion of your membership purchase and activation of your membership. If making payment by cheque, you should send payment no later than December 15th to avoid missing the December 31st deadline for receipt of payment by the BCAK. Please contact the office by email or telephone when sending a cheque so we can monitor for payment arrival and can inform you once it is received.

Proceed to STEP 1

By proceeding I acknowledge that I have read. understand and agree to abide by the requirements for BCAK membership.. Furthermore, I understand that when renewing Practicing membership, if I do not complete the entire renewal process and pay my BCAK membership dues by the December 31st, deadline, my membership will become "not in good standing" and additional fees will apply to renew or reinstate my membership.
