Core and Electives Course Guide - 2023 and 2024

Overview

Courses offered have been assigned to the core and elective course categories as determined by the BCAK based on course outlines or syllabi available as of the document release date. If there are new or other courses you have completed, they will be assigned based on the course syllabi you provide. Important Note: If you have completed a course that has since be renamed or renumbered, please know that we will look for that during our review of your application (at times, the course may not be accepted if it is materially different from the course that we currently accept).

Academic requirements for membership are NOT static, rather they are dynamic and continually improving. The BCAK discusses changes to academic requirements with BC post-secondary institutions which have kinesiology degree programs. Please note that BCAK does not consider the BC Transfer Guide, or transfer courses accepted by the receiving university, when reviewing acceptance of courses, rather, as stated above, it reviews and considers the course syllabi. If your graduating university has accepted transfer credits, please verify these courses with the BCAK to ensure that they will be accepted transfers.

Overview and Legend

Self Assessment

Please use the following form to complete a self assessment of your transcript. If you are unsure of where a course may be placed, please refer to the Elective Course Guide for more information.

Courses highlighted in green can qualify as a Category 2 or Category 3 elective if not required in Category 1 (e.g., you have more than the minimum required in the category to which they have been assigned, and providing the course meets the category requirement definition).

Applicants may provide post-secondary institution supporting information for BCAK consideration when course curriculum has been amended and has not been taken into consideration in preparation of this table. Applicants who have taken subjects that have been replaced with new names/numbers are required to provide course syllabi to demonstrate course content.

Four Year Degree Institutions

This table exists to help students determine the courses required for BCAK Practicing Membership. It is important for students and applicants to recognize that not all post-secondary institutions offering kinesiology degrees may offer a bachelor’s degree stream which meets the requirements for BCAK Practicing membership. This recognizes the diversity and purposes for which each institution has established its undergraduate kinesiology degrees or programs.
