Renewal Preparation

1 - Operating System and Web Browser

Applies to: All Membership Types
Details:
Ensure your device’s operating system and web browser are up-to-date. Outdated systems may lack essential security updates and can cause issues with payment processing or redirecting to the group insurance provider, potentially disrupting your renewal.

Action:
Use a browser checker tool to verify compatibility, and check for updates to your operating system (Windows, iOS, or Android).

2 - Criminal Record Check (CRC) Clearance Letter

Applies to: Practicing and Non-Practicing Members (Excludes Academic Members)
Details:
A current Criminal Record Check (CRC) clearance letter must be on file with BCAK. This must be completed through BC’s CRRP - not through local police or third-party services.

Members without a valid clearance letter will be unable to renew. If your renewal is blocked due to CRC expiry or an incorrect expiry date, please contact the BCAK office. Please note that without a valid CRC you can no longer be a BACK professional member and your insurance will be invalid.

Action:
Check your CRC expiry date on the Renewal Readiness page. If a new CRC is required, email the BCAK office to request a personalized link. For full details, visit the CRC Information Page.

3- Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Entries

Applies to: Practicing Members (note in 2026 CPD credits will also be required for Non-Practicing Members)
Details:
Ensure you’ve entered all CPD activities and met the minimum requirement of 20 CPD credits before renewing. New members (joined between April and November) may have prorated requirements.

It’s recommended to log CPD activities throughout the year to avoid last-minute delays.

Action:
Log your CPD activities through your Member Portal.

Note for Non-Practicing Members:
Non-practicing members who wish to change to Practicing membership during the membership year or at renewal must demonstrate completion of 20 credits per year since they were last a Practicing member and record this information to their member account. BCAK recommends non-practicing members participate in CPD events and record them annually to prevent potential delays if a membership change is required in the future.

4 - Professional Liability Insurance

Applies to: Practicing Members
Details:
Professional Liability and Commercial General Liability insurance are mandatory. If you use a provider other than BCAK’s group insurance or work in public practice, you must submit an insurance declaration and a copy of your policy for review.

Action:
Visit the Insurance Requirements page for full details and submission instructions.

5 - Membership Dues and Terms & Conditions

Details:
Review the current Fee Schedule and understand the terms of membership renewal.

Key Terms:

  • All membership dues are non-refundable.
  • Memberships not renewed by December 31 become “not in good standing” and cease 31 days after the last valid date.

Applies to Practicing and Non-Practicing Members

  • A late renewal fee applies from January 1 to January 31 for those members who do not renew by December 31st.
  • Lapsed memberships may be reinstated within 36 months of last being in good standing. See Membership Reinstatement for details.
