Renewal Preparation

1 - Operating System and Web Browser

Applies to - All Memberships

Details - Ensure your device operating system and web browser you will complete the renewal process are up to date. Outdated operating system and web browsers may not have the latest security updates and can result in payment processing or Group insurance provider redirect issues negatively affecting your renewal process.

Action: Use this browser checker, and check for operating systems updates to your your system (Microsoft Windows, IOS or Android)

2 - Criminal Record Check (CRC) Clearance Letter

Applies to - Practicing and Non Practicing Membership (excludes Academic)

Details - Practicing and non-practicing members require a current Criminal Record Review Clearance Program (CRRP) clearance letter on file with the BCAK. Clearance letters are to be completed through BC's Criminal Records Review Program (CRRP), not a local police detachment or other criminal record check service.

Those who do not have a current clearance letter on file will be unable to renew their membership. Please contact the BCAK office for assistance if your membership renewal is blocked due to CRC expiry or incorrect expiry date.

Action: Confirm your CRC expiry date on file with the BCAK, by checking the Renewal Readiness page. If you require a new CRC clearance letter, please send an email to the BCAK office and request a link be emailed to you. For full information, see the CRC Page.

3 - Entering Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Events and Activities

Applies to - Those wishing to renew Practicing Membership

Details - Ensure you have correctly entered your CPD events and activities prior to beginning the renewal process and that you have completed the minimum 20 CPD credits.

New members (in their first year of membership) who joined between April and November have pro-rated requirements.

It is recommended that CPD entries be performed at the time they are completed throughout the year, rather than waiting until renewal time.

Action: Enter your qualifying CPD events and activities through your membership portal - the full year requirement is 20 CECs.

Note for Non-practicing members - Non-practicing members who wish to change to Practicing membership during the membership year or at renewal must demonstrate having completed 20 credits per year since they were last a Practicing member and record this information to their member account. BCAK recommends non-practicing members participate in CPD events and record them annually to prevent potential delays if a membership change is required in the future.

4 - Professional Liability Insurance

Applies to - Practicing Membership

Details - Professional Liability and Commercial General Liability insurance coverage are mandatory. If you carry insurance through a provider other than the BCAK group provider or work in public practice, you must complete and submit an insurance declaration form and provide a copy of your insurance policy form for review and confirmation that it meets the BCAK requirements.

Action: Refer to the Insurance Requirements page for full details.
