Renewal Preparation

1 - Browser and Operating System

Applies to: All Memberships

Details: Ensure your web browser and operating system on the device you will complete the renewal process on are up to date. Use of older browser versions or not having the latest operating system updates can result in payment processing or insurance redirect issues preventing a successful renewal process.

Action: Use this browser checker, and check for operating systems updates to your your system (Microsoft Windows, IOS or Android)

2 - Criminal Record Check (CRC) Clearance Letter

Applies to: Practicing and Non Practicing Membership (not Academic)

Details: Practicing and non-practicing members must maintain a current CRC clearance letter on file with the BCAK. Clearance letters must be completed through BC's Criminal Records Review Program (CRRP), not a local police detachment or other criminal record check service.

Those who do not have a current clearance letter on file will not be able to renew their membership. Please contact the BCAK office for assistance if your member renewal is blocked by the system.

Action: Confirm your CRC expiry date on file with the BCAK (if you haven't already done so) - this can be found on your 'Renewal Readiness' page, found in the member's only section of the BCAK website. If you require a new CRC clearance letter, please send an email to the BCAK office and request a link be emailed to you. For full information, see the CRC Page.

3 - Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Uploaded

Applies to: Practicing Membership

Details: New members who joined part way through the year have reduced requirements. CE credits can and should be uploaded as they are completed rather than waiting until the end of the year and must be uploaded prior to attempting membership renewal. (before November 15th is recommended when possible, to be ahead of the process).

Action: Enter your required CPD credits through your membership portal - the full year requirement is 20 CECs.

For Non-practicing members

Non-practicing members who wish to change to Practicing membership during the membership year or at renewal are required to have completed 20 credits per year since they were last a Practicing member and upload this information to their account. BCAK recommends non-practicing members upload CPD credits annually to prevent delays if a change is required in the future.

4 - Professional Insurance

Applies to: Practicing Membership

Details: Professional liability insurance coverage is mandatory. If you hold insurance through a provider other than the BCAK group or work in public practice, you must submit a copy of the insurance coverage and request recognition.

Action: Refer to the requirements for providing proof of insurance and note the submission deadline on the Insurance Requirements page.

5 - Confirm you membership fees, terms and conditions
