Renewal Readiness

Browser and Operating System (Update to Most Current Versions For Best Results)

Applies to: All Members

Action: Ensure your system browser and operating system are up to date: use this browser checker (please note that outdated browser issues can have a negative 'ripple through' effect with your whole renewal process). Other system related issues (i.e. where the payment is 'processing' for far too long) could mean that your computer/device security system firewall or popup blockers interfere with (delay or stop) the processing of your renewal.

Criminal Record Check (CRC) Clearance Letter - Requirements

Applies to: Practicing and Non Practicing Members (not to Academic Members)

Action: Confirm your CRC expiry date on file with the BCAK (if you haven't already done so) - this can be found on your 'renewal readiness' page in the member's only section of the BCAK website. If you require a new CRC clearance letter, please send an email to the BCAK office and request a link be emailed to you. For full information, see the CRC Application Page.

  • Practicing and non-practicing members must maintain a current CRC clearance letter on file with the BCAK.
  • Clearance letters must be completed through BC's Criminal Records Review Program (CRRP), not a local police detachment or other service.

Members who do not have a current CRC clearance letter on file will not be able to renew their membership. Please contact the office for assistance if your member renewal is blocked by the system.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Uploaded

For Practicing Members

Enter your required CPD credits through your membership portal - the full year requirement is 20 CECs. New members who joined part way through the year have reduced requirements. CE credits can and should be uploaded as they are completed rather than waiting until the end of the year and must be uploaded prior to attempting membership renewal. (before November 15th is recommended when possible, to be ahead of the process).

For Non-practicing members

Non-practicing members who wish to change to Practicing membership during the membership year or at renewal are required to have completed 20 credits per year since they were last a Practicing member and upload this information to their account. BCAK recommends non-practicing members upload CPD credits annually to prevent delays if a change is required in the future.

Changes anticipated beginning with the 2026 membership renewal: BCAK plans to introduce CPD requirements for Non-Practicing members in 2026 to provide members a more seamless opportunity to switch back and forth between Practicing and Non-practicing membership when required. Contact the office if you feel this may apply to you in the future.

Professional Insurance

Applies to: Practicing Members Only

Action: Professional liability insurance coverage is mandatory, refer to the Practicing Member Insurance Requirements if you are unsure of the requirements. If you purchase insurance through a provider other than Prolink/Trisura or work only in public practice, please refer to the requirements for providing proof of insurance.
