Hi!
My name is Mhairi MacCallum, I'm 25 years old and I hold a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Calgary.
In Calgary, I studied areas of human performance and mental and physical health such as biomechanics, exercise physiology, concussion, neuroscience, nutrition, wearable technologies, exercise and sport psychology, injury prevention and rehabilitation, and leadership and social aspects of human movement and sport. I also worked as a research assistant, participated in a community outreach program called Be Fit for Life, and ran cross-country with the Calgary Dinos.
Working as a kinesiologist, my goal is to improve the health and mobility of all, from youth to older individuals, and to inspire active living. I would also like to encourage exercise as a tool to alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression in those struggling with mental health.
I have been active throughout my life and have participated in various sports and activities such as dance, cross-country and track and field, downhill skiing and horseback riding. I have also been weightlifting recreationally for several years and enjoy finding new and innovative ways to use equipment in order to keep workouts fun and interesting. Through my participation in sport, I have developed experience coping with Achilles tendonitis and anterior cruciate ligament injury and have practiced and studied rehabilitation from these injuries extensively. Furthermore, I am particularly interested in preventing injury by correcting common movement incompetencies such as valgus knee loading, poor lumbopelvic, scapulo-thoracic or trunk control, and hip, knee, ankle, and centre of mass unalignment.
Feel free to reach out to me at any time, I am always keen to meet and help new people.
Thank you,
Mhairi MacCallum, BSc
