Hi there! My name is Joey and I am a BCAK registered kinesiologist. I am a Bachelor of Kinesiology graduate from the University of Toronto with experiences working in research and clinical settings.
My research experience includes qualitative equity, diversity, and inclusion/inclusivity (EDI) work with a focus on incorporating diverse perspectives into the research field. Through my EDI research, I prepared academic papers and had the opportunity to present my findings at various conferences which allowed me to hone my academic reading, writing and presenting skills. From my research experience in the EDI field, I aim to incorporate inclusive and safe practices in my work as a kinesiologist to create a space that celebrates differences and removes discrimination and bias barriers.
My clinical experiences include working with a variety of different populations. My work with the University of Toronto's multidisciplinary sport medicine team allowed me to gain experience in rehabilitating injured collegiate athletes. My work at Toronto KidsPhysio, a pediatric physiotherapy clinic, provided me with the opportunity to assist physiotherapists in treating children of various disorders/injuries. Finally, my work at Neurofit BC involved assisting physiotherapist-led exercise classes for adults with Parkinson’s and adults recovering from stroke.
I am excited to continue to grow and develop my skills in the rehabilitation field!
