I am a Practicing Kinesiologist with 10 years’ experience in active rehabilitation, ergonomics, return-to-work planning, and disability management.
My current occupation is that of a Recovery & Return to Work Specialist with WorkSafeBC. In this role I:
• Develop, implement, and monitor individualized return-to-work plans that bridge the gap between a workers’ current functional abilities and their job demands.
• Visit worksites to assess job demands and explore return to work opportunities.
• Collaborate with various healthcare providers (i.e. physicians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, social workers) and stakeholders (i.e. employer representatives, worker representatives, union representatives) to assist in the development of recovery and return to work plans.
• Weigh evidence and interpret law & policy to determine a worker’s eligibility for benefits.
• Authorize appropriate diagnostic referrals and consultations.
• Develop supportive, collaborative, and respectful relationships with workers, employers, and health care providers.
• Educate workers, worker representative groups, employers, industry groups, and health care providers on best practices and strategies for timely return to work and the management of disability.
