Emiko Ohama has enjoyed serving as a Kinesiologist in Kamloops since 2016. She is a practicing member of the BC Association of Kinesiologists (BCAK) and affiliated with the Canadian Kinesiology Alliance (CKA). Emiko holds a Bachelor of Human Kinetics from the University of British Columbia, where she completed both programs offered: Clinical Exercise Physiology and Health Promotion.

Additionally, she has certifications in:
Functional Capacity Evaluation (May 2019), Practical Applications of Pain Science (Pain Management) (April 2019), Functional Assessment of the Spine and Extremities (FASE) (Nov 2018), Mental Health First Aid (March 2022), Onsite Value Add Services - Job Coaching, Worksite Rounding, Movement Strategies for Injury Prevention (June 2020), Behaviour Change Theories Taxonomy Training, and Professional Leadership Development.

Emiko is experienced working with diverse populations and provides confidential assessments and guided 1-on-1 active rehabilitation treatments. She frequently helps patients from Kamloops & Merritt who have experienced whiplash & require rehabilitation for injuries sustained due to motor vehicle accidents. She can help patients to reduce their headache frequency and restore their body's range of motion & strength. Sage Sport Institute can submit bills directly to ICBC.

Other conditions commonly resolved with treatment include: SI Joint Pain, thoracic spine, shoulder and low back pain. She also commonly provides treatments for patients who have been diagnosed with a Meniscus tear that isn't bad enough to warrant a surgery, but requires strengthening and improvements in the knee's range of motion for a safe return to work.

Over the past seven years, Emiko has also frequently worked with the older adult population (including those with dementia & cognitive impairments) to improve their strength and balance to maintain their independence and prevent falls. She also frequently provides assessments for people who want to improve their posture.

Taking an evidence-based approach, she has also successfully coached young adults to use exercise to support improvements with mood and mental health. Emiko has been able to help patients to change their behavioural patterns to attain their sleep and wake goals. Emiko can help you to prepare for an upcoming surgery, as well as, provide hydrotherapy & post-operative rehabilitation services. She is experienced working with post-operative Cauda Equina Syndrome patients. Emiko has also previously helped to guide cancer patients with exercise programming, youth to increase their physical literacy, and numerous patients to achieve their healthy weight goals and feel confident in their ability to exercise.

Emiko is passionate about working with clients to create achievable goals and personalized programs that support an optimal recovery. She also loves helping clients to be proactive and take ownership over maximizing their potential for healthy living and longevity.
